Barbara Ventura’s research activity deals with light energy collection and conversion in photoactive host-guest assemblies and supramolecular systems, study of luminescent materials for optoelectronics, energy conveying systems, electroluminescent devices, biomedical applications. Her expertise covers steady-state and time resolved absorption and emission spectroscopy for the characterization of the optical properties of materials. She has published to date 121 papers on ISI journals (h-index = 40, ISI WoS) and has presented more than 100 contributions to national and international congresses and workshops.
She has been and is currently involved in several National and European projects. The more recent projects are listed below:

Short CV:
Barbara Ventura got a master degree in Chemistry (summa cum laude) at the University of Bologna in 1997, under the supervision of Prof. V. Balzani, discussing the thesis: “Photochemical and photophysical characterization of new catenands and catenates” (winner of the “Myriam Borsari” award, University of Bologna, A.Y. 1995/96). She achieved the PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Bologna in 2002, discussing the thesis: “Mitochondrial Complex I regulation of electron transport in physiological and pathological conditions”, under the supervision of Prof. C. Bovina. During the doctoral course she spent a research period at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Stockholm University, Sweden (supervisors Prof. G. Dallner and Prof. P. Sindelar). From 2002 to 2007 she had post-doctoral experience at the Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity (ISOF-CNR) in Bologna, working on the projects: “Photophysical characterization of photoactive supramolecular systems for energy conversion and molecular recognition (CNR-Agenzia 2000)”, “Electron and energy transfer in nano-machines driven by light (FIRB-MIUR)” and “Photophysical characterization of organic and hybrid inorganic/organic emitters (EU-FP6-STReP)” (supervisors Dr. L. Flamigni, Dr. F. Barigelletti and Dr. A. Barbieri). From 2008 to 2010 she held a researcher position at ISOF working on the photophysical characterization of photoactive nano-organized molecular and supramolecular systems with applications in sensors and light energy conversion. In October 2010 she carried out research activity at the University of Rennes 1 in Rennes (France), in the group of Prof. M. Blanchard-Desche, on the project “Two-photon absorption: theory, techniques and applications”, supported by a CNR Short-Term Mobility Program. Permanent researcher at ISOF since 2010, she became senior reseracher in 2019 and research director in 2021. Publications:
