Today, Friday, January 24th, 2025, the Marconi Hall at the CNR in Rome hosted an important training event in collaboration with the National Union of Agro-Food and Environmental Journalists (Unarga), the Order of Journalists Lazio, and the Italian Association for Public and Institutional Communication. The event brought together Institutions, Researchers and Communicators to discuss innovative strategies to promote a healthy and sustainable diet among primary school children.
Childhood obesity in Italy is a concerning issue, LO-VEg, funded by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (PRIN MUR), aims to raise awareness among children in Milan and their families about the importance of increasing the consumption of vegetables and legumes. The project seeks to combat childhood obesity by encouraging dietary habits that are both health-enhancing and environmentally sustainable. The goal is the use of innovative approach based on nudging: gentle strategies to guide behaviors towards better personal and environmental well-being.
ISOF researchers: Dr. A. Torreggiani, Dr. E. Saracino, Dr. A. Zanelli and Dr. E. Polo are partner of the project and are involved in different other dissemination and communication projects that aim at the developping of educational tools in food consumption and healthy life-style.
In the occasion of the event at CNR Rome, that would highlighted how awareness of healthy eating is key to preventing diet-related diseases and ensuring a sustainable future, Dr. E. Saracino explained the idea of use a comic to translate science in story-telling for children (6-11 yo). The comic is actually part of a CNR Comics&Science series volume (https://www.comicsandscience.it/)
