We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to join our ongoing efforts in conducting research activities related to the study of functional signals on populations of astrocytes and neurons co-cultured at interfaces nanostructured interfaces

Project Description
The successful candidate will join our experimental team in carrying out research activities at the CNR Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity, for the Carrying Out of Research Activities Under the AFOSR Research Project/Programme-Investigation on Co-cultured Astrocyte and neuron populations by Recording Ultra-low Signals with nanostructured electrodes-ICARUS. In particular, the project deal with the new investigation tools allowing to study the behavior of large scale astrocytic/neuronal networks over long temporal periods without damaging the cells.
The job location is at CNR-ISOF Institute (Bologna, Italy).
Start date of project: 30/09/2021 end date: 29/09/2024.
Job Description/Responsibilities
You will perform experimental research, both individually and as part of our team. Depending on your background and interests, you may contribute to aspects such as the following:
- the manipulation of biological systems, primary cultures of neural origin (neurons and glia and three-dimensional neuroal mouse models, neurospheres);
- dynamic imaging techniques (calcium imaging), time lapse imaging, applied to the study of interaction with advanced materials and devices;
- the study of the structural properties of neural cells and their interaction with nanostructured materials through immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy.
Qualifications
a) Degree in Health Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, obtained in accordance with the regulations in force prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99, or a Master’s/Master’s Degree (Ministerial Decree 5 May 2004), with a professional curriculum suitable for carrying out research activities;
b) All qualifications obtained abroad (degree diploma, doctorate and any other qualifications) must be, as a rule, previously recognized in Italy according to the legislation in force subject (information on the website of the Ministry of University and Scientific Research: https://www.mur.gov.it/it – https://www.mur.gov.it/it/aree-tematiche/afam/offerta-formativa-afam/riconoscimenti-titoli-esteri-afam).
The equivalence of the aforementioned qualifications obtained abroad that have not already been recognized in Italy with the foreseen formal procedure mentioned above, will be evaluated, solely for the purpose of admission of the candidate for this selection, by the selection board set up pursuant to art. 6, paragraph 1 of the Disciplinary;
c) experience in the research field as described in art. 1 and in art. 4 of the official call for application;
d) knowledge of the English language;
e) knowledge of the Italian language (only for foreign candidates)
Contract Terms
This position is a full-time temporary employment for 16 months, renewable for multiple years.
