On November 3rd 2021, ISOF hosted Francesco Matteucci, Programme Manager on Greentech (Materials for energy & environment) at the European Commission within EIC.
Francesco Matteucci gave a seminar on “Deep tech companies”, i.e. companies having as main goal to provide technology solutions to solve substantial scientific or engineering challenges. Often these companies develop brand-new technologies because no existing technology fully solves the problem at hand. The EIC aims at identifying and supporting breakthrough deep technologies and game changing innovations to create new markets and scale up.
The European Innovation Council (EIC) has been established under the EU Horizon Europe programme. It has a budget of €10.1 billion to support game changing innovations throughout the lifecycle from early stage research, to proof of concept, technology transfer, and the financing and scale up of start-ups and SMEs.
Francesco presented its personal viewpoint as to what is theoretically necessary to consider when starting a deep tech scale up. A few tips as to how one could design the exploitation strategy of a deep tech were touched upon.
The initiative was organized in collaboration with ART-ER (Attractiveness Research Territory) nthe Emilia-Romagna Joint Stock Consortium born with the purpose of fostering the region’s sustainable growth by developing innovation and knowledge, attractiveness and internationalisation of the region, Europe enterprise Network and SIMPLER consortium.
