ISOF at the Genoa Science Festival 2024: Exploring Chemistry, Nutrition and the Art of Science Communication

2024-Genoa Science Festival

The Genoa Science Festival (24th October-3th November 2024) is one of the most important scientific events of the year for both students and community. This year it will be enriched by the participation of our colleagues from ISOF: Dr. E. Polo, Dr. E. Saracino, Dr. A.  Zanelli. Their precious contributes have been evaluated from the scientific festival committee, composed by 69 nominanted illustred scientists, among them also Dr. A. Torregiani who takes part to the ISOF team, too. The event is open to schools, students and family and aims to make science accessible to all the community. We are proud to contribute to this mission demonstrating how our institute is strong in overcoming the gap between cutting-edge research and public engagement. Every year the Festival has a different topic and the main theme of the 2024-Festival will be “The Challenges”. In order, to explore this thematic, we proposed talks, laboratories and games by exploiting the power of dissemination and scientific communication, ranging from advanced chemistry to the complexities of human nutrition and welfare.

Specifically, one of our sessions will delve into the fundamental role of chemistry in every day life with an oral contribution. Our goal is to demystify chemistry, showing that it is not just a subject confined to scientific laboratories, but a vibrant, dynamic force that influences our health and environment. Another key area we will address, with other two sessions, is the science of nutrition in an era where food choices have significant impacts on both personal health and the environment. A laboratory will be dedicated to food principle nutrition elements with a focus on sustainable eating practices and with a special event game dedicated to understand the value of different food nutrition, the food pyramid and the science behind dietary guidelines.

By bringing our expertise to this festival, declared the ISOF team, “we hope to inspire future generations of scientists, inform the public about important issues and contribute to a society that values and supports science improvement”. The ISOF team is excited to be part of this vibrant event and looks forward to engaging with the public.
